Discover the Power of Cisco Meraki

 

 

Cisco Meraki MX Firewalls is a Unified Threat Management (UTM) and Software-Defined WAN solution. As a UTM product, Meraki MX provides content filtering, app-specific traffic control, intrusion prevention, malware protection, and site-to-site VPN that is deployable on hardware or virtually. It also enables firewall management remotely for 24x7 monitoring and accessibility.

Users are able to deploy, monitor, and configure their Meraki devices via the Meraki dashboard web interface or via APIs. Once a user makes a configuration change, the change request is sent to the Meraki cloud and is then pushed to the relevant device(s).

 
Meraki Cloud Architecture
The Meraki cloud is the backbone of the Meraki management solution. This "cloud" is a collection of highly reliable multi-tenant servers strategically distributed around the world at Meraki data centers and select public cloud service providers. For the remainder of this document we will refer to both the Meraki data centers and the public cloud service providers' locations we use as "data centers".

 

The servers at these data centers are powerful hosting computers comprised of many separate user accounts. They are called multi-tenant servers because the accounts share (equal) computing resources on their host (the server). However, even though these accounts share resources, Meraki ensures that customer information is kept secure by restricting organization access based on account authentication, as well as hashing authentication information such as user passwords or API keys.


We have installed Cisco Meraki MX on a university campus several years ago, The campus has more than 30 Meraki switches and a hundred Meraki access points. 

We had other technologies integrated with Cisco devices and troubleshooting was really challenging.  Cisco Meraki MX comes with Meraki Dashboard, we can troubleshoot from there easily. We can add new devices to the network and change a rule or a configuration. We can make it without a VPN--with only a PC and connection to internet, you can access the dashboard and make the modification.

Cisco Meraki offers a unique, cloud-managed IT platform that integrates seamlessly with Cisco’s traditional products and other third-party tools. A few practical steps needed to secure enterprise networks effectively. In a world where cyber-crime is an ever-present threat, Meraki’s cloud-managed solutions offer a robust alternative to traditional wired and wireless networks.

Data Centers
Customer management data is replicated across independent same-region data centers in real time. The same data is also replicated in automatic nightly archival backups hosted by in-region third-party cloud storage services.

Technnovation 2016

I was invited to be a judge for three students projects namely; a Solar-powered Hybrid Vending Machine, Smart Switch, and an Improved Mechanized Ice Cream mixer done by graduating electrical engineering students who participate on Iligan Institute of Technology, Mindanao State University – Innovation Convergence last August 30-31, 2016. The title of the event was 2016 Technnovation with the theme, “Advancing Technopreneurship and Innovation in Mindanao”. In parallel with other session they have these: Cluster 1 Resilient Structures, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Environment Cluster 2 Energy and Power Cluster 3 Health, and Pharmaceuticals Cluster 4 Food and Nutrition Cluster 5 Instrumentation and Control I am at Cluster 5 to judge the three projects, this is last August 31, 2016.
