Why do the Philippines have slow internet?

 

It isn't that the country's regulatory landscape makes it difficult for internet service providers to put up the necessary infrastructure. 

Actually the approval of electronics systems designs and plans in the city and municipal areas isn't difficult, it was most likely because they could not enforce the law. And also corrupt government officials exploit this lack of enforcement to steal money from the telecommunication companies.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), has released memorandum circulars on RA 9292, Electronics Engineering Law of 2004 regarding its implementation.

The Local Government Units should already have a guide in formulating a unified and defined set of procedures in the releasing electronics permit and in the checking and approving of electronics system plans and designs.

The country's regulatory landscape NEVER make it difficult for internet service providers to put up the necessary infrastructure. The standards and important components of the four electronics systems plans and design as mandated in the four books of the Philippine Electronics Code, was NEVER implemented.

The evaluation of various components related to the Telecommunications Facilities Distributed System. The components include equipment room size, grounding system, plan and layout of cables (entrance facilities, Telecommunication enclosure, horizontal cross-connect, backbone, and horizontal cabling), location of each equipment, signal level, safety and warning signs, tower specification, materials used in the system such as cable, antenna, transceiver system, and battery and rectifier, bandwidth specification, and Fiber Optic Cable (if this is used in the application).

If these are not check then we won't have an effective regulation, spectrum management, consumer protection, public safety, and market fairness. We are not helping to  maintain a well-functioning telecommunications environment in the Philippines.

I have a presentation to electronics engineering students in Iligan Institute of Technology – Mindanao State University, the title “ Fire Detection and Alarm System” or FDAS. Technnovation 2016

I was invited to be a judge for three students projects namely; a Solar-powered Hybrid Vending Machine, Smart Switch, and an Improved Mechanized Ice Cream mixer done by graduating electrical engineering students who participate on Iligan Institute of Technology, Mindanao State University – Innovation Convergence last August 30-31, 2016. The title of the event was 2016 Technnovation with the theme, “Advancing Technopreneurship and Innovation in Mindanao”. In parallel with other session they have these: Cluster 1 Resilient Structures, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Environment Cluster 2 Energy and Power Cluster 3 Health, and Pharmaceuticals Cluster 4 Food and Nutrition Cluster 5 Instrumentation and Control I am at Cluster 5 to judge the three projects, this is last August 31, 2016.
